Weymouth and Portland is one of the top UK windsurfing venues. Portland Harbour and Overcombe Corner are the more popular sites actively used by windsurfers and play host to annual events such as the Four Nations Windsurfing Championships and the Volvo RYA Windsurfing Youth & Masters National Championships.
Portland Harbour, one of the worlds largest man-made harbours, provides safety by containment within the harbour walls and is ideal for both beginners and experts. Tuition, equipment hire, servicing, launching facilities and expert advice are all readily available from local watersports shops.
Overcombe Corner has a designated sailboard launching and approach channel. This is designed to separate windsurfers from other vessels and bathers giving an element of safety. With a good swell, the area becomes ideal for wave jumping and has excellent facilities including expert advice and servicing from the watersports shop alongside the cafe plus car parking adjacent.
Please be aware that the Paracademy kite surfing school operates on the shores of Hamm Beach and windsurfers are advised to give the students a wide berth.
