Weymouth Lifeboat Week

Sunday 25th July to Friday 30th July 2010

Join the volunteer crew of the RNLI Weymouth Lifeboats for a week of fundraising activities and events. During the week you will be able to see Weymouth's Severn Class All Weather Lifeboat, the "Ernest and Mabel", and Weymouth's Atlantic 75 Inshore Lifeboat "Phyl Clare III" work alongside the areas other rescue units including the Auxiliary Coastguard and the Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter in combined Air Sea Rescue displays. You will be able to meet the volunteer crew that give up their time to help save lives at sea in often difficult and treacherous conditions.

The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24 hour lifesaving service around the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboats have saved more than 137,000 lives.

Fundraising Activities and Events throughout the week include:-

Blessing of the Weymouth Lifeboats in the Cove, Weymouth Harbour. Both the Weymouth All Weather and Weymouth Inshore Lifeboats will be moored in the Cove area of Weymouth Harbour where a service will take place to celebrate the dedicated work of the Weymouth Lifeboats and the crew.


BBQ, Bar, Live Music, Children's entertainer, Harry Potter bouncy caste, tug o War. At 7.00pm watch a combined Air Sea Rescue demonstration featuring the Auxiliary Coastguard team, Weymouth All Weather and Weymouth Inshore Lifeboat and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

Mid week, in the early evening you will also be able to view, from the Bowleaze Cove area, a combined rescue display by the Weymouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

Towards the end of the week, the Weymouth Lifeboat Crew invite the public to have a guided tour of both the Weymouth All Weather and Weymouth Inshore Lifeboats. The volunteer crew will be on hand to show you around the boats and share their experiences of the different types of rescues undertaken in the call of duty.
